usherh It doesn't say it's not safe, it's actually usually safe, it says to use caution as with all apks not from the play store. Although apk mirror is generally considered more safe, apk pure also verifies its files. No matter where you get the apk from you could/should scan it with a 3rd party antivirus such as virustotals online scanner. (You don't need to worry about downloading it to your computer before you scan it, as apks won't autorun on your pc, just scan before you install on a phone)

A podcast app is not really recommended due to the wide variety of content available, either one can try to modify an open source app to only allow certain podcasts (even then, what may be ok for some may not be for others, there's a lot of grey area) or maybe take a look at Yidpod
