I was able to sideload a full LG Rebel 4 Settings APK, but the process was quite involved.
Place this file on the SD card:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eOKFFKD9pN_HsfsXeP8Wz33swmgAZgCt/view?usp=sharing
Get into an ADB shell and run these commands.
"am start com.android.documentsui/com.android.documentsui.ViewDownloadsActivity"
"input tap 30 30".
Scroll down to SD card (MUST HAVE SD CARD!), and run: "input tap 20 310"
Select LGSettings.apk, but the OK button doesn't work.
If it's on the left side "input tap 40 160" for right "input tap 160 160"
You can update the APK now, and you will now have access to enable sideloading from the file manager!
LG Classic Flip - I sideloaded the Rebel 4 Settings APK
xxdeafgirl
If I understand correctly you did this for the lg classic?
Can you briefly explain what we will be able to do after following these steps. Will we be able to install 3rd party apps?
xxdeafgirl I tried it and nothing happen
xxdeafgirl wen I run "am start com.android.documentsui/com.android.documentsui.ViewDownloadsActivity"
cames up a error massage on my phone "file keeps stopping" any idea ??
mg5077 Factory reset and try this on a CLEAN INSTALL. ALSO NEVER ENABLE "Show Internal Storage"! You must use an SD card of any size (512MB is what I used) to store this APK on.
L-B It won't lift the signing restriction, but it will pave the way for enabling permissions, sideloading our "fake-signed" apps from the regular File Manager, and changing defaults without ADB trickery needed.
This is a regular Android settings application, pulled from another cheap LG prepaid Android smartphone.
It happens to be "compatible" with the LG Classic Flip if you follow my steps.
If your "Files" app is stopping a lot, back up and factory reset. I was not able to recreate any issues mg5077 as long as I factory reset before attempting this.
xxdeafgirl you can also simply install it with ADB !!!!
mg5077 Wait. I couldn't get this working. What command, PM INSTALL-CREATE?
I used pm install /sdcard/LGSettings.apk and it failed.
xxdeafgirl its just "adb install {path/name}"
Okay then...
xxdeafgirl I didn't understand your question ....
I found the easiest way to install it is through adb. The cmd will be “adb install -g -r [drag the apk from your desktop into the cmd prompt]“ and hit enter. If you would like to get back the original settings app you can simply type in the following cmd “adb shell pm uninstall com.android.settings“ and restart the phone. (Be careful not to do -k - -user 0) you can do similary by just installing a uninstaller app.
developer options dont work in hidden menu after lg rebel 4 mod is installed (meaninig cant get usb debugging or usb ethernet) unless there is a way to get there in the rebel 4 settings?
you just click on build number 7 or 8 times and then go back one menu and develpor options should be there
@xxdeafgirl Are you able to send the Lg Rebel 4 SettingsProvider .apk
hotspot dosent work it just crashes
trying to uninstall using "adb uninstall com.andriod.settings but got error
:adb uninstall com.andriod.settings
The system cannot find the path specified.
can you install it AND kepp the original settings app?
L-B I just copied from the post I have replied so here is the fix
adb shell pm uninstall com.android.settings
xxdeafgirl I Followed the instructions but now i cant find any of the settings..??
blumax either you can install list launcher Which @xxdeafgirl has also posted, and that will have the settings app. Or you can just use voice access to open settings.
I'm back and I KNOW WHY HOTSPOT CRASHES! We need way more APKs than originally thought, so I'm thinking of making a megathread about this. You'll minimum need Wi-Fi and Bluetooth from a Rebel 4. I have the R4 out again so I'm gonna do some pull work tonight and tommorow.
Could someone explain how to install this settings app https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eOKFFKD9pN_HsfsXeP8Wz33swmgAZgCt/view?usp=sharing ?
i know this thread is old, but can some body answer GOLDFISHs question?
To install it you use ADB
Command:
adb install -r -g LGSettings.apk
Look up Rebel 4, I'm pretty sure I uploaded a bunch of other system apps.
Mike UN220? That's Android 6.0. I'd need to buy an LG K8 V and cross my fingers that it's on 6.0 still.
xxdeafgirl Doesnt work (Anyone know why it says here "you do not have permission to do that" ?
THE_SOMEONE It randomly says it in a lot of spots on the site... must be a glitch
If you see that, login and refresh the page. That should help
xxdeafgirl can you find some settimg app that will work for android 6 cause thats why its not working for lg exalt
So I'm trying to install this via WebADB. I've tried through it's install APK function with no success I assume because I cannot include the - g - r flags. When I try to do it through the shell I get this error: /system/bin/sh: adb: not found
Any suggestions? I should mention that I am using WebADB as my only computer at the moment is a chromebook.
grk1138 That's because you're already in the device. You need to push the APK to it and then use pm install <path> -g -r
do you have that for the lg exalt 2?
xxdeafgirl where do i find the app after i install it????????
Doesnt the LG Settings app need to be modified before installing?
chaimzalman not if the phone thinks it’s upgrading a system app
