I have an LG exalt, VN220 that is showing up as full even though there is nothing stored on the phone. All info was moved to SD card and the folders of the internal storage are empty. Any ideas besides nuclear? (w/o reset or delete VZMessage app?)

My experience so far has been that its the messaging app but still not sure exactly what the fix is.

This post is in yiddish and the google drive link with messgae + is dead.
Apparently, I did it here a little while ago, but when I try now, I get the already installed error, even if I try to install a newer version,

Flippy Someone gave me a phone that had the same problem. When you click to show what's taking up storage the numbers don't add up to account for all the space that's taken up. The only thing I was able to think of is either messaging or email. The guy said he heard it might be from the livigent filter, but it doesn't sound like your phone has a filter and it's still having the issue.

Flippy

Techgen It seems like the messaging. But when I try to install the message+ apk, I get
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS]
Even when I totally uninstall the message+ app, I am still getting that error when I try to reinstall it. Any tips?

lgexalter1 Nice, so that's reinstall?
Still getting same error though.

The
adb shell pm clear <package name>
command did help free up a few hundred MB for anyone that needs this....
and it didnt lose any messages.

Flippy

lgexalter1 I am getting the error even when I fully uninstall message+ (tried on 3 separate devices)

Flippy

lgexalter1 but why would I even need that if I already uninstalled the app? (Besides for the fact that I am trying to install a newer version)

Flippy It doesn't fully remove itself via ADB for a lot of system apps

Flippy

Biden2020prez Ok and what about the fact that I am installing a newer version?

If it has the same signature, then it should be fine. But you need-r which is the command to update an existing package.

That's exactly what -r is for

Flippy

Biden2020prez Thats my problem, even with a newer version and the -r flag, it wont install and I get the same error.

Flippy Yeah, I understand. In general, do you know if it's possible to update Message+ on the exalt. (without your situation)

Also, no promises, but if you upload the apk here, I can try to edit the apk to be a standalone app, nothing to do with the original version, which should install just like any other app.

If you try to install a newer version you may or may not get an error

I don't think that will help me. I am trying to get it to overwrite the old app so the "restore factory version" option comes up when you try to uninstall (via the programming menu as mentioned above), so that it removes the cache, or whatever information is wasting my storage. Dont know if just having another message+ app will do me any good.

Did you try adb install -r or adb shell pm install -r?

try putting the apk in a folder on your phone, for example downloads.

then:
adb shell
cd /storage/self/primary/downloads (or wherever you put it)
pm install -r your-filename.apk
