Started by Flipp · Jul 15, 2021 · Page 1 of 2

Is there a way to fix a broken hinge on the LG Exalt VN220? A piece of my phone cracked off, and the top screen part is now dangling. Just the right side is holding it together.

You can fix it in Boro park cellular 4less or yoni phone repair it will probably cost around 100$

Macher
Thanks. Any way to do it myself?

Flipp smart talk in monsey will fix it for $75

anyone in Lakewood?

Flipp I have a guy in lakewood for $65 or that price range. feel free to email me at ddf.myi@gmail.com
or here's a phone number to text him.. ‪(347) 201-2501‬

Flipp Yes, Every part on those phones can be replaced.

Flipp You Can, you need to buy the part online, but requires you to remove the screen then the casing and a few screws. Take off the back cover, and basically remove the hinge and swap it out, now you got make sure not to break anything else while doing that, otherwise you'll be needing to replace other parts as well.
or just have someone do it for 60-65.

Myi Link to the parts?
Also name of places that do it at that price point?

Flippy Gave you the guys number above, text him.

Anyone know how to take the screen of to change the frony cover do you need to heat up the area around the screen?

Myi thanks what do you use to heat it up ?

Flippy

A blow dryer or heat gun work fine

Flippy Macher I'll tell you off the bat when using a heat gun be extremely cautious if it gets hotter then what you could actually touch meaning if you can't put your hand on there anymore you probably fried your LCD so be extremely cautious.

There's no adhesive on the LCD, it's just around the plastic.

You can try peeling it off slowly with a playing card/metrocard or something thin.

My only reason for you to use heat is that way you can stick back the screen after removing it otherwise you're going to need some type of adhesive to hold the screen back to the frame.

Macher So any luck? Or you just went somewhere to fix it?

Flipp You can order entire new housings on aliexpress.

CallMeACynic Yes you sure can. But don't expect to get all the small parts. For example the rubber on the top of the bottom hinge, and the metal bracket which determines when the phone is open or closed. Basically it's doable if you literally take off every small part and build the new housing. A little warning, it's a real pita. So do it at your own risk. Aside from waiting a few weeks before getting the parts.

Just so you can see for yourself the difference. Go to globalpartsdirect.com and match up the parts. You'll see some have small parts.

Myi can someone suggest how I remove the lens after heated on the sides from the top half of phone there's no room to wedge it out???

william If you read up thread, Or rather if you did not read up thread, be really careful if you're using heat because you'll mess up the screen.

Use a metrocard, that's something that you have in New York, Or a wedge bar any plastic piece to pull it up. Even a playing card should help.
If you ever fixed any phone or have any plastic prybars that's the best tool.
Just curious what are you looking to do?

I would not advise you to use any metal knives or sharp objects you'll end up scratching the plastic screen and the real screen.

Myi thx
I'm trying to replace the hinge

Myi I'm trying with playing card but it just bends and doesn't pry up the screen??

Try using such a plastic prybar.

william also be careful not to snap the little tabs when pulling off the cover. They break really easy.
Where the blue tip is pointing to.

Can someone post a link for a replacement part? I am looking for the LG exalt Speaker/outer mic.

Flippy So if you need the speaker that would be...
https://globaldirectparts.com/oem-lg-exalt-lte-vn220-ear-speaker-eab63788301/

And if you'll need a new mic because people can't hear you on speaker or the mic on the main pcb board, meaning when your off speaker people cant hear you then you'll need ...
https://globaldirectparts.com/oem-lg-exalt-lte-vn220-microphone-eab62830801/

Yes there's two mics. one for speaker and one when off speaker. they are both the same. Though they need to be soldered on or using heat to pull off the old ones and put the new one on. or spend $20 and but a new board on which has a new mic, so in essence another $17-$18. though its backordered Now.

william Youre welcome. how did the repair go?

Flippy

Myi Great thank you! The mic for being on speaker is the little hole on the front of the unit, correct?

@Myi actually not that good whats the proper way to heat the sides without burning the lcd screen? i had to buy new glue for it bc heating didnt work for me??

william Don't use any glue. Just a pry bar.

Flippy yes it is.

@Myi i meant lens adhesive to stick the lens back to the phone

william yes use Double sided sticky tape. That way you can remove the screen again should you. Vs glue which will leave behind a mess.

The only reason I suggested to use very little heat was so you can remove the lens and put back after the repair, while being able to use adhesive again. At this point like mentioned use double sided sticky tape like you see from gpd.

Myi how do you remove it with out snapping them?

@Myi how to remove the top part of phone from bottom by the hinge with out cracking anything??

william Good Q. Quite hard. No tip or trick on my end. Just try your best.
If you do end up snapping it, it will cause the cover to pop off, which will then cause the hinge to come loose, which can allow for the top and bottom to separate and eventually and snapping the ribbon cable.
Yes I have many spare parts of those little black frames connected to the front screen, which can easily be swapped out when I snap one upon removing the cover.

william Message me and I can guide. You, much easier than posting here back and forth.

Myi in

does anyone know where i can get the sticky glue to stick the screen back in place after taking off to replace hinge??

not the actuaally screen the lens on the outside

Flippy

william Try a tiny bit of gorilla glue. Even crazy glue should work fine.

i would buy the material the phone comes with just in case i would need to open it up again but i just dont know where to buy it?

princeofthecS

on the side of the flex ribbon on the keypad frame the hinge cracked off the phone and I lost the metal piece that was in it (not the lock on the other side) and the little plastic cover on the outside of the frame do any1 know what those pieces are called how I could get them?

princeofthecS you basically need a new hinge.
That's what I would call it.
