  • Issues with the Unlocked LG Wine2, Not working properly on T-Mobile?

I currently have in hand all three versions of the LG classic Flip / wine2.

LG Wine 2 Model# LG-LMY120UM is locked to US Cellular (https://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-lmy120um0auclpl-us-cellular-wine-2).
LG Wine 2 Model# LG-LMY120QM is unlocked (almost impossible to get it, see: https://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-lmy120qm7abptpl-regional-carriers-acg-lra-wine-2#pdp_where ).
LG Classic Flip (Model# LG-L125DL) was specifically built for Tracfone (and its children-companies), and is not even listed on LG's website.

Finally got ahold of all three versions.
Trying to use T-Mobile service.

The lg classic flip from TracFone obviously is not going to work.

Then I got ahold of the Us cellular version and it goes the sim card, meaning shows 4g lte but as soon as you dial out if says invalid sim.
So that's out.

And lastly picked up a few of the So called Unlocked Version of the wine2 Lg classic flip.

Tried my T-Mobile Sim card, while the Sms, mms all work fine. The calling when on the Lte 4g bands it delays the call for 10 seconds before dialing the number.
But after changing it to the 2g bands, everything works as normal, but then again I'm using 2g bands when I can use 4g which I would assume would give me better coverage most places?
As well I can't seem to send picture message when in the setting that gives you 2g. If you zoom in to the pics you can see what I'm talking about.

There's a global setting which automatically gives you the LTE gsm. And then another setting which has edge or whatever , and gives you the 2g settings.
While I'll post a picture of the settings, and the last setting didn't work at all.
And CDMA of course won't work as I'm Using T-Mobile which is a gsm carrier.

When I'm in Global it automatically selects the 4G LTE option and calling is delayed 10 Seconds and when someone tries calling me they need to wait the same 10 seconds before they hear a dial tone.

I've never needed to call T-Mobile in the past to register the device with my account, so don't think that should be the issue, but have no problem running it by them to see if they can assist. Or if it would help if it's registered on the network with them.
I'm thinking it's something to do with LG as the UN220 is giving me issues as well.

Techgen

Myi did you check which physical 4g bands the wine has and what 4g bands T-Mobile uses?

Myi its nothing about LG its about t-mobile as I posted here mg5077

Techgen Did not, but can check now that you pointed that out.

Weird that everyone on eBay sells them staying avlb for use on TMobile, Gsm Unlocked.

mg5077 Yes I saw that.
If what your saying is true. If I manage to have service for a year with tracfone on the classic I won't work for me on TMobile after I request the unlock?

by me the calls are delayed but other than that everything else works

Yms Indeed that's my only issue.
It's not just outbound calls, it's the same by the incoming and outgoing.
If someone wants to call me, after not hearing a ring tone for 5-10 seconds he hangs up.
Not really Ganna work.

Myi So then why don't you just buy the Alcatel by T-Mobile.

Techgen Device supports only LTE Bands 2, 4, 5, 12, and 25. Device can use LTE Band 4 for Canada LTE roaming.

Technology CDMA, GSM, LTE, WCDMANetwork CDMA, GSM, LTE, WCDMA
Frequencies 1.9 GHz CDMA PCS, 800 MHz CDMA; GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz; LTE Bands 2/4/5/12/25; WCDMA Bands 1/2/5/8Data Transmission 1xRTT, LTE, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, GSM, HSPA+, HSPA

Now lets see what tmobile supports.

Yms Have two of those, and i will say they are trash, slow like a turtle, horrific hardware on that phone. Phone crashes and turns off.
trying to see what other options i have, alcatel is not on my list.

I have the..
VN220
UN220
Kyocera Cadance
LG Classic flip
LG Wine 2 Unlocked Version

None of those seem to work for tmobile.
Seems i might have to try the Shock or something similar.

Just curios what service was the UN220 Made for?

Myi The Schok isn't either branded for T-Mobile.
You're not going to get the best of both worlds

Does the unlocked one work for verizon?

yteps Don't have a Verizon Sim handy at the moment so will have to wait till next week if you want me to try on my end. Unless someone here has an Unlocked version to try.

yteps Tried it with a Tracfone sim on Verizon. Works for calling and texting.
But picture messages does not work. Though with tracfone you need to call to register the IMEI on the network for things to work properly.

Jumptoheaven

Myi did you try changing the apn settings, depending on the carrier?

Jumptoheaven The APN settings seem to be set correctly, I did check each time to make sure it had the correct APN settings and reset the settings to double check that.

Techgen Jumptoheaven Interesting enough , if what they're telling me(T-Mobile Tech Support) is true then that would explain to why there's a 10 second delay for outgoing and incoming calls when using a T-Mobile Sim card on this LG Exalt UN220, and the LG Wine2 Unlocked Version.

They previously had one band in common on the 4g lte network with this phone, for the calling and it was the U1900 which basically allowed for the, 4G LTE band to work.
While they still have a 2g band which they still support for calling and that would explain why when making a call on the 4g network it takes a few seconds before the call can go out , as it needs to find a 2g band to make the call, and the same is true when it receives a call needing to find a 2g band for the incoming call.
While I tested it solely on the 2g band and the calling works great, as it's not switching before any of the calls, as it's currently the only working band on that device for T-Mobile.
They mentioned since the new 5g is out they're phasing away the old U1900 Band.
Now I got to try it on a At&t sim to see if it works.
Oh well that takes care of the LG Exalt UN220, And the LG Wine 2.
Never understood the reason to phase a band away, unless it's costing them to run it, and there's no use for it, or most Customers don't use that band anymore?

Myi I don't know.

Myi un220 is for uscalluler

mg5077 The AN and UN seems to be the same.
While the UN220 is an unlocked GSM device so it should techinally work.
And I see it has two of the bands that T-Mobile Supports.
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz; LTE Bands 2/4/5/12/25

So even should they stop supporting the U1900 there's the 850, Band 5

Myi I've sold the UN and the AN in the past had had pretty much a pleasant experience with the UN. Almost no issues. A few customers needed their APN's manually updated. However, the AN was terrible. The only carriers they worked with were Canadian Carriers. On LG's site, it seems like both were unlocked and both had the same bands...

SimpleJew That's really strange, are you telling me my phone is defective? i can try to factory reset the device, but i don't think that's going to help. switches to 2g when making and outbound call.

Myi Hi.
Can you send me the unlocked lg wine 2 system files (LG-LMY120QM)?
I'm trying to hack the lg classic (LG-L125DL) to all carriers, and I think that might give me some helpful hints.
Thanks!

Flippy

SimpleJew Many people that have tried to use the UN with T-Mobile, didn't work. Even though it showed service, they missed many inbound calls and had poor reception. I know many people that tried it and have also tried it myself on many devices. If anyone thinks it okay, maybe they just don't realize their missing anything...? Or its different in rural/urban areas (I am in Brooklyn NY)? Whatever the case may be, Since the device doesnt support VOLTE it would probably be unsopporterd when t-mobile sunsets the 2g service.

Uri

Uri Uri Tell me where to find that and I can gladly send that over to you.

GOLDFISH

Uri does it help if I give you the system files of an unlocked lg classic that was unlocked by tracfone?

Myi You need to install a file explorer which supports root. ES for example.
Go to root\system folder, and copy from there 3 folders: app, priv-app and framework, and one file: build.prop.
Zip all the things you copied and send the zip archive to me.

GOLDFISH I hardly belive so...
Unless it's a device that if you reset it the unlocking will remain.

GOLDFISH

Uri I unlocked 6 devices by tracfone the way it works is if you pay them $150 they send you an email with instructions how to unlock it you dial #TFunlock# then put two 15 digits codes and it comes up that the phone gets unlocked and the phone restarts and after a reset it stays unlocked every phone has different codes it has to do with the imei number of the phone

GOLDFISH lets give it a try. If the phone stay unlock after reset, mybe, just mybe, the unlocing change something in the system apps...

Does anyone know a way how to unlock the lg wine 2 from us cellular?

Rabgrn have one as well. Keep me posted ifyou figure it out.

Uri Still of use?
