lgexalter1 Agree! I have very little interest in being here anymore if all we get are lazily typed, questions by people that did absolutely no research. Whats our options?
Forum Moderation
lgexalter1 Fully agree
lgexalter1 so what do you suggest?
Any dumb questions should just be deleted?
It would prob be better if we can dislike posts or someone like that. Or maybe it can be deleted along with the fellow receiving a notification of some sort.
I came here recently, and one of the things that bothers me is the clutter and people asking senseless questions. I think that part of it is that the website may need to be redone in a manner that explains the basic instructions very clearly for those that need a little more help and guidance. Take Dansdeals for example. The main site is very clear with instructions on for every step, but its all very basic. If you want the more complicated stuff, thats what the forums are there for. But, nobody is here to do spoon-feeding. Sometimes you have to look around to see if a thread already exists and if its been already discussed.
I do think think that it would help if there were topics that housed threads. For example,
(@Apps4Flip-Admin is there an option for this?)
Topic: LG Exalt - VN220/UN220
1. Thread: How to go to the homescreen on a call.
2. Thread: Livigent Filter
3. Thread: Mouse for VN220Topic: ADB and WebADB
1. Thread: How to use ADB to program your phone
2. Thread: ADB troubleshooting
3. Thread: ADB commands
Maybe have threads for more advanced programming and questions. Or just have one thread dedicated to beginners questions.
Another thing that I feel would help remove the clutter is if the admins could move and combine posts into existing threads. That way there wont be multiple threads disscussing the same thing. Besides cluttering up the screen from other threads, it makes it impossible to find existing threads.
A seperate pet peeve of mine is when the topic doesnt describe the issue.
For example:
/d/227-filter-and-apps
/d/207-conglomerated
/d/211-home-screen
Explain what the the basic topic and what phone you are trying to use.
I really appreciate the forum, it has been extremely useful for me, and I would love for it to continue. I know that there is a lot of potential and so many people here who can help me. I know that a lot of my issues depend on the will of users of the forums to make the commitment to keep the forum useful. @Apps4Flip-Admin if you want to reach out to me I'd be happy to help with some implementation. I would love to see a forum that is friendly for all users, basic and advanced.
All the ideas here sound great. Any of you interested in becoming a moderator?
I would definitely be interested. I have a vision for this forum, that it can be very easy to use without clutter. I also think that it shouldnt be too hard make it friendly enough for everyone to use. It exasperates me to see see this mess of "lazy" users, so for that, I'm in.
I vote @shabbosabba for moderator
I've been on the forum for a pretty long time, although I got too busy to post for a while. I've been meaning to post a set of rules/tips for new users for a while, but this thread reminded me about it. Something like this:
Welcome to the forums, if you're a new user please read before posting.
When asking a question:
1) Look on the apps4flip site for instructions, especially if your question is related to installing apps and using adb.
2) Use the search function to search the forum to see if your question was asked already.
3a) If your question is addressed, but you still don't understand the answer, ask a friend who is more tech savvy to help you out.
3b) If you still have a question to post, try to find a thread that it belongs in, if not, then create a new thread that's clearly titled.
4) Don't post a question more than once, it will not help it get answered faster.
5) When asking your question be as clear as you can about what exactly the problem is, including the type of phone and any error messages that you may be encountering. Don't just jot down your question in 3 misspelled incomprehensible words - if you don't take your issue seriously, you can't expect anyone else to.
6) If someone helps you out, thank them and let them know if it worked, it helps people know which solutions are helpful.
When replying to a post:
1) Make sure to read through the conversation up till that point, and that you understand what the person is asking.
2) Only reply if you have an answer, don't reply "I don't know" (unless you were asked specifically)
3) Don't reply to really old posts, unless you're sure you have new information that has not been mentioned since anywhere on the forum.
4) If you're fresh on the forum, don't just sit there replying to every post you see; what's new and exciting to you, is probably irrelevant and annoying to everyone else.
It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the forum and get a feel of how to ask a question and what a typical conversation looks like, before you start posting.
Enjoy!
it seems like about the five last posts were exactly the opposite of the above. Anyrhing we can do?
Something I think would be very helpful is to create a separate category of 'guides'. Which will include posts that offer guidance on certain things, for example the posts for modding of @xxdeafgirl .
What do you think, @Apps4Flip-Admin ?
I like that, we will look into it
